jegaFollowing the shift in dates for the 2015 general elections, from Feb 14 and Feb 28, to March 28 and April 11, 2015, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, has announced a new campaign time table for the conduct of the re-scheduled polls.
According to the INEC Secretary, Augusta Ogakwu, political campaigns by candidates for the Presidential and National Assembly would end on March 26, two days to the elections, while campaigns by governorship and state assembly candidates will now end on April 9, two days to the said elections.
Ogakwu further stated that the new campaign dates have been fixed in accordance with the provisions of section 99 subsection (1) of the Electoral Act, which prohibits advertisements or broadcasts of campaigns 24 hours before the elections.
INEC further clarified that in the event of a run-off, the election would be held within seven days from the day of announcement of the results as specified in the 1999 constitution.
