okowaAhead of the forthcoming April 11, 2015 governorship election in Delta State, a pan Delta group, the Odu Oma Club of Nigeria, has called on the people of Delta North to vote massively for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, as the next governor of Delta State.

The group made the call at a town hall meeting held in Okpanam, a community in Oshimili North Local government Area of Delta State, noting that with the governorship ticket of the ruling PDP in the state, coming to Delta North, the need for the Aniomas to stand behind their son, Senator Okowa cannot be over emphasized.

In a graphic documentation of the voting pattern in Delta State, since 1999 to date, the National President of the group and Eze Odu Oha of Odu Oma Club, Nigeria, Chief Patrick Okenyi noted that the Anioma people should improve on their poor participation at elections and turn out enmasse to vote for Senator Okowa, in order to improve the overall chances of the Anioma candidate scoring more votes in the polls.

Chief Okenyi noted that with the introduction of the Card reader as the electronic device for accreditation during the elections, the need for the people to be physically present at their various polling units has become imperative as only accredited voters will be allowed to cast their votes, as the days when people felt their votes will not count, have been addressed with the introduction of the card reader machine.

Okenyi, who highlighted the importance Delta North in the political history of Delta state, averred that both Delta Central and Delta South had turned out in large numbers to support their candidates when they got the ticket, urged the people of Okpanam and indeed the entire Anioma nation to embrace the quest to elect Senator Okowa as a crusade that must be achieved come April 11, 2015.

Earlier in his address, before departing, the INEC Representative for Voter Education in Aniocha/Oshimili LGA’S Mr. Chukwuma Odoh, who represented the Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, had carried out a comprehensive voter enlightenment session where he demonstrated the processes of the election, the use of the application and functions of the reader and the expectations of the electorate when they get to their various polling units to vote on election day.

High point of the townhall meeting was the distribution of electoral enlightenment materials to the participants of the well attended meeting before, by the INEC representative, immediately after which he departed to allow the Odu Oma Social club address the real essence of the townhall meeting.
