The wife of the Delta State Governor and Founder, “05 Initiative, Dame Edith Okowa, made the call at a reception held in honour of a serving judge in the state and wife of the member representing Patani Local Government Area in the State House of Assembly, Justice (Mrs.) Excel Gentu Timi, who celebrated her 50th birthday, in spite of her sickle cell challenge.
The governor’s wife, who thanked God for keeping the life of Justice Timi who was diagnosed with the sickle cell disorder at the age of 11and was told that she could not live beyond the age of 21, because of her condition, commended the judges’ determination to pursue her career in the legal profession, in spite of the exacting nature of her job, which she attributed to the grace of God.
Dame Okowa stated that the birthday was worth celebrating as it was a testimony of hope for sickle cell challenged persons and others with similar life-threatening conditions.
According to her, “The pain suffered by sickle cell sufferers and their families was more than one could imagine and that was why I focused on the health section of my project, “05 Initiative which is reaching out to sickle cell challenged persons in the 25 local government areas of the state”.
She said that her desire in establishing sickle cell clinics in all central hospitals across the state with the help of God and the support of all Deltans and members of her team would bring the desired fruit.
Testifying the goodness of God upon her life, the celebrant Justice (Mrs.) Excel Timi thanked God for preserving her all through these years, despite the challenge. According to her, “ No matter your condition in life, don’t lose hope in God, you can be what you want to be in life with God on your side. And because God has already said that we shall not die before our time, I cued into it and God did it for me”
The celebrant and her husband, Hon. Tonye Timi thanked everyone who honoured the occasion from the thanksgiving service at Living Faith Church (LFC) Winners’ Chapel, Asaba, to the reception venue at Orchid Hotel, Asaba.
