Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Peter Mrakpor has disclosed that the Ministry is now poised to establish Mediation Centers in all the 25 Local Government Areas of the State, adding that the initiative is geared towards promoting the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice in amicable resolution of disputes in Delta.
Barr. Peter Mrakpor, who made the disclosure on Thursday, May 12, 2016, during a general meeting with staff of the Ministry, at Hall of Celebration, Okpanam Road, Asaba, said the Mediation Centers would promote Meaningful Peace Building Platforms aimed at consolidating the Political and Social Harmony agenda of the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration.
Mrakpor affirmed that the Ministry had already taken proactive steps in the area of capacity building, by equipping staff with the requisite professional skills in mediation, adding that the Ministry is irrevocably committed to promoting the use of ADR practice in the State as an amicable means of settlement of disputes.
While charging staff to be professional, skillful, diligent and organized in the dispensation of their official duties, the Justice Commissioner enjoined his personnel to develop the culture of savings, even as he assured Departments whose staff were yet to receive their laptops that they should expect theirs in the second batch to be distributed soon.
He also urged Lawyers in the Ministry to be active Members of their respective Local branches of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), saying that the Delta State Ministry of Justice had fully paid for the Stamps and Seals of every Legal Officer in the Ministry and will continue to do so.
Highpoint of the meeting was a sensitization campaign by the Management of Delta Trust Fund Mortgage Finance Limited led by its Managing Director, Mrs. Ruby Okoro who used the opportunity to enlighten Staff of the Ministry to take advantage of the services offered by the Mortgage Bank, to acquire their landed properties or finance the building of their personal houses in any part of the State, while still in active service.
Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Emmanuel Okirhienyefa, in his vote of thanks, appreciated the Attorney-General in his wisdom for inviting the Management of Delta Trust Fund Mortgage Finance Limited to the meeting in order for staff to benefit from the Mortgage Finance Bank in owning their personal houses while still in the service.
