Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, has called on Nigerians to key into the 05 Initiative, initiated by the wife of Delta State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa, stressing that the pet project of the Delta First Lady has been designed to cater for the needy in the society and should be appreciated by all and sundry.
Mr Ukah, who made the disclosure, during the public presentation of 05 Initiative, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), at the Event Center, Asaba, noted that the pet project of Dame Okowa, the 05 Initiative, has already stood out as a well thought out endeavour which is driven by a determined organization and is clearly impacting positively on the lives of the poor and needy in Delta State.
Ukah, who placed special emphasis of the activities of the 05 initiatve since inception, stated that, “Within one year of setting up this NGO, you can see a credible organization that is working hard to make the less privileged in the society happy. As you can see, the 05 Initiative has provided portable water and other facilities for prisoners, facilitated the release of more than forty inmates suffering in prisons because of their inability to pay their options of fines and has also paid the hospital bills of those who could not afford such bills, as well as school fees for indigent students.”
Speaking further, the Delta Information Commissioner noted thus: “What can be more heart-touching than setting up sickle cell centres in different hospitals? We all need to support 05 Initiative in these ventures, if you don’t have money, pray for them to succeed.
“The wealthy in the society and other NGOs deserve to partner with 05 Initiative because, we have a credible woman, Dame Okowa at the helms of affairs and don’t forget the activities of 05 Initiative were backed by Biblical injunctions,” the Commissioner added.
He then lauded the large turn-out of people for the event, especially the colourfully attired women, observing that the lecture delivered by Dr. Annete Akinsete, Founder and Director of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Nigeria and keynote address delivered by Prof Epiphany Azinge, former Director General, Nigeria Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, NIALS and Chairman of the occasion, respectively, were eye openers for parents on how to prevent sickle cell disorder, and manage it when it happens and indeed a clarion call for Nigerians to key into the biblical injunctions of love, care and support for one another, on which the 05 initiative of Dame Edith Okowa, First Lady of Delta State, was founded.
