bayokoThe newly appointed Delta State Head of Service (HOS), Mr Reginald Bayoko, has hailed the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta state and assured that training and retraining of civil servants, including information officers, would be given utmost consideration, during his tenure.

The Head of Service stated this when the Executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, led by Comrade Norbert Chiazor, paid him a courtesy call.

Mr. Bayoko stated that such trainings would boost the capacity of civil servants to make them keep up with modern trends in public service delivery, adding however that the present challenging economic situation was a limitation to most laudable government initiatives.

The HOS bemoaned the one line career progression of State Information Officers, describing it as not encouraging, even as he added that arrangement would be put in place to enable them grow like their counterparts within the MDAs.

He then pledged his partnership with the NUJ in Delta state and while calling on public service workers to key into the SMART Agenda of the Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa forward-looking administration, urged them to explore more creative ways of delivering on their areas of professionalism through increased and valuable productivity.

The Chairman of the State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Norbert Chiazor, said the visit was to felicitate with the HOS on his meritorious appointment and thanked the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for the gesture.

Comrade Chiazor reassured the HOS of Journalists continued commitment to balance and objective developmental reportage devoid of sycophancy and sensationalism.

While informing the HOS that State Government was making concerted efforts to complete the NUJ secretariat, he solicited for enhanced career progression of State Information Officers and state-sponsored local training programmes for Journalists in the areas of reorientation and professionalism.
