augoye1A box culvert is to be constructed on the Old Lagos/Asaba road in Agbor Ika South Local government area to check flooding in the area.

The state commissioner for works Chief James Augoye disclosed this today during an inspection tour of the on-going dualization of Owa-Ekei/Owa-Alero road.

Chief Augoye explained that the box culvert would link the Owa-Ekei drains to the drainage network on the other side of the Old Lagos Asaba Road to reduce the pressure of water flowing from the Owa-Ekei road on the existing drains.

He said this would create a proper channel of free flow of flood to the discharge point instead of flowing on the surface of the road.

Chief Augoye noted that the intervention was necessary to forestall the damage flooding might cause to the residents.

While urging the contracts to expedite action on the drains and road project, the works commissioner said the Okowa administration had promised sustainable road network for Deltans and was set to keep the promise.

The chairman of the consultative leadership of Onu Ika Nigeria, Mr. Daniel Usifo commended the State government for the prompt response to their petition and assured of total cooperation of residents of the area.

The contractors handling the Owa-Ekei dualization Messrs CCECC and Hi-Tech construction limited have already mobilized to site and are working round the clock to address the situation.
