Delta State Labour Party Chairman, Chief Tony Ezeagwu and Honourable Member Representing Ethiope East in the Delta State House of Assembly, on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), Hon. (Chief) Evance Ochuko Ivwurie, have said that contrary to claims that the party is down and out, Labour Party was still waxing strong and is poised to form the next government in the state come 2019.
Speaking to a mammoth crowd of well over 700 members from the eleven (11) electoral wards that make up Ethiope East Local Government Area during a general/stakeholders meeting of the party at the residence of Hon. Iwurie in Abraka and the hometown of the former leader of the party, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, Hon. Ivwurie explained that the party is embarking on a registration exercise to admit those who are interested in joining the party and re-registering old members.
Giving reasons why he and others refused moves to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC, the lawmaker said: “We are tired of moving from one party to another, besides, as I speak with you, the few individuals who left Labour Party to join APC are already regretting their move.
“With due respect, the Delta state chapter of the APC does not represent the ‘President Buhari APC Change Mantra’ as it is made up of failed and extremely corrupt politicians especially those who were very unethical and nefarious in PDP and let me set the records straight here, am not going to APC, I remain in Labour Party. Anyone that is serious in wanting to be governor of the state come 2019 should not take Labour Party for granted,” he added.
Speaking further, the lawmaker said: “The current Labour Party in Delta State is a new and vibrant Labour Party under the leadership of Chief Tony Ezeagwu as the State Chairman. I can assure you that we would run the party professionally and effectively for the overall benefit of all members of LP.”
He thanked the Chairman of Ethiope East Labour Party, Sir Boniface Imoje (KSM), Chairman of the Leaders/ Elders Council, Engr. Emumejakpor, Excos of the leaders and Elders Council, the LP LGA Excos and LP Ward Excos for mobilizing members en-mass by making sure that all Ethiope East electoral units and wards were adequately represented in the meeting. He also charged the leadership of the Party to quickly fill all vacant positions in the Wards, LGA and Elders/Leaders Council Excos immediately.
On his part, the Labour Party state chairman, Chief Tony Ezeagwu while addressing members of the party at the meeting, said: “We cannot be jumping from frying pan to fire. LP in Delta State is now a strong united party as the era when one person calls the shots is over. What binds us together is the vision that we would form the government of Delta State come 2019.”
High point of the meeting was the passing of vote of confidence on Chief Ezeagwu and Hon. Ivwurie by members and executives of the party in the LGA.
