A Pan Niger Delta, Socio/cultural group, the Esan Peoples Movement of Niger Delta, EPMND, has thrown its full weight behind the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ticket of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Hon. John Yakubu, declaring that the team would serve the interest of Esanland better than other contestants in the September 10, 2016, Edo governorship elections.
The group, which made this disclosure in a statement jointly issued by its Chairman, Augustine Eriaremwhen Oboh and Secretary Mrs. Benedicta Ozidede, from their Warri, Delta State office, affirmed that the decision was based on the fact that having critically analyzed the manifestoes of the major governorship candidates, studied the agenda of the key political parties, and accessed their commitment to the development of Esanland, it has come to the conclusion that the PDP ticket of Pastor Ize-Iyamu and Hon. Yakubu, is the best choice for Esan people and indeed the entire Edo state.
According to the group, the decision of the PDP to zone the Deputy Governorship position to Edo Central Senatorial district, was a clear indication that the party meant well for the people of Esanland and the unanimous endorsement of Hon. Yakubu, whom the group described as a true Grassroots politician and a popular and beloved local government chairman, during his tenure as Chairman of Esan North East Local Government, by the political leaders and elder statesmen of Esanland, has settled the matter over who the people of Esanland will vote for come September 10, 2016.
Declaring further, the EPMND noted that Esanland has suffered massive neglect and marginalization both in terms of socio/political empowerment and infrastructural development, in the last ten years, even as it added that while the real and tangible dividends of democracy have been denied Esan people over the years, the token infrastructure put in place by the government in the area have not addressed the core needs of the people and will not stand the test of time, and the time has now come for the people to take their destiny in their hands with their votes.
The Esan Peoples movement of Niger Delta then urged the people of Esanland to be wary of campaign promises of those who will forget them once they are in power and cast their votes for only those who they can see and hold accountable to their mandate after the election, adding that an outsider cannot cry more than the bereaved and nobody will be better placed to attract empowerment to Esan sons and daughters, as well as development to Esanland, than an Esan man.
The group which decried the claimed achievements of some of those campaigning for votes in Esanland as mere cosmetics, finally called on all Esan indigenes both at home, abroad and especially in the Niger Delta, to return home, mobilize and vote for the governorship team of Pasto Ize-Iyamu and Hon. John Yakubu, affirming that they have the welfare and interest of Esan sons and daughters at heart and will deliver the dividends of democracy to Esanland and Edo state, after the September 10, 2016 Edo state Governorship election.
