The call was made by the Executive Director, Social Services Development, Hon Ochor Chris Ochor, when the members of the Ika Youths Peace Movement (IYPM) paid a courtesy call on the management of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, (DESOPADEC), in Warri, recently.
Hon Ochor, who represented the management of the commission told the youths that for the programmes of the state to be successful, a lot is required from the youths in the state, especially in the area of peace among the people.
Ochor stressed the need for the body to be a link where the ideas of the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa will be actualized through the preaching of peace at seminars, workshops and different programmes that will entrench cordial relationship among the people.
“I enjoin you to be that avenue through which we will reach out and relate to every youth body to sustain the ideas of the Governor, especially in peace building in the state”, he said.
On the present operational system of the commission, the Executive Director told the youths that a lot had changed in DESOPADEC, especially in the area of sharing free money to people, and with the new focus on total youth training to prepare the people for the future, the current board is determined to serve, despite the financial limitations that the commission is facing.
According to him, every activity to be carried out must be built into the budget, and it must be defined to be something that will be beneficial to all, as the 2016 budget of the commission was designed to be at the same level with that of the state government, in order to achieve the SMART agenda programme, especially with focus on training the youths in various entrepreneurial skills.
