Umutu: In order to strengthen the gains of the last Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) congress election in Ward 1, Umutu, Ukwuani LGA, Delta state, the members of the party have been enjoined to remain united.

The call was made recently by a chieftain of the party and Executive Director, Social Services Development, on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Hon Ochor Chris Ochor, when he hosted the party Executives of the ward.

Emphasizing the need to remain united, Hon Ochor told the Exco members that every parameter to ensure unity amongst the members of PDP in the ward was tied to desire of achieving harmony and togetherness amongst party faithful and the Executive members should see their elevation to party leadership as a call to duty and a great opportunity to entrench and enhance the unity of the party in the Ward. “You Executives, must be united, and remain united and by extension, you must ensure that all members of the ward remain united,” Ochor admonished.

The party chieftain, who further stressed that some of the causes of disunity in a body like a political party include lies, rumour mongering, corruption and extortion of members, then called on theExco to ensure that PDP remain relevant and consolidate its place as the main party in the ward, irrespective of membership drive of the opposition party.

“Yes the opposition party must go for membership drive, but that does not call for you to remain docile. You must work to retain your position, you must solidify that, you must not fail, you must remain focused,” he said.

Hon Ochor who used the occasion to plead with the PDP faithful in the ward to remain patient with the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa government for the dividend of the party’s victory to get to them, also told the Exco that political election in the country has advanced beyond what it used to be and as such they have to work and ensure victory for the party in the ward in future elections.
