I have no hand in Amaechi’s Judicial scandal, Says Okowa *** Advices Davies Ikanya To Grow Up

okoamaechiDelta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Friday said he had no hands in the ongoing judicial scandal against Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi.

The Governor was reacting to statement credited to the Rivers state APC chairman, Davies Ikanya in which he alleged that, Governor Okowa, Wike and others are behind the allegation by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta and Justice Inyang Okoro, two justices of the Supreme Court, who accused Amaechi of prompting them to avert justice to favour the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidates especially in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.

Okowa described the Rivers APC’s allegation as false, misleading and a calculated attempt to smear his hard earned reputation, noting that the Davies Ikanya should concern himself with the dwindling fortunes of his party in Rivers rather than embarking on a wild goose chase.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Okowa denied the allegation by the APC describing it as not only spurious but laughable.

He said: “The attention of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has been drawn to yet another spurious allegation by the Rivers State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Ordinarily we wouldn’t have joined issues with a jobless party Chaiman like Ikanya, but in order to set the records straight, it is pertinent to state that Governor

Okowa has no hand in the latest scandals swirling around the Transportation Minister.

“As governor of Delta State, Okowa is too busy delivering on his SMART Agenda to be enmeshed in such petty accusations of orchestrating any accusations against the transport minister.

“How is it possible for anyone to imagine that two respected Justices of the Supreme Court were told to lie that Amaechi made attempts to influence their judgements in his party’s favour?

“Rather than encourage the former Governor to defend himself, the Rivers APC is busy looking for people to rope into their inglorious adventure. Davies Ikanya should grow up.”

Recall that The All Progressives Congress (APC), through its Rivers State Chairman, Mr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya had accused four chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of being responsible for the bribery allegations against the minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Justices Sylvester Ngwuta and John Inyang Okoro, two out of the seven judges arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for alleged corruption, had categorically named Amaech as the architect of their travails, accusing him of trying to bribe them into giving judgments that were favourable to the APC governorship candidates.

A statement by Mr. Ikanya, had named the four PDP chieftains as Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state and Senator Godswill Akpabio, former Governor of Akwa Ibom state and now Senate Minority leader.

The statement read: “These big four PDP politicians are said to be the biggest spenders who allegedly induced and bribed the Supreme Court justices with hefty sums of money to get favourable judgments. They are said to be the major sources of the money, wealth and properties that have been traced by the DSS to Justices Okoro and Ngwuta.

“These PDP bigwigs are said to have advised the justices to drag Amaechi into their arrest and investigation by the DSS. They believe doing so would muddle the waters, divert the media and public attention from the corruption allegations against them and make the whole arrest and investigations look like a political vendetta against the justices.

“Our findings indicate that they told the justices that the Buhari government is after them, wants to bring them down, and that they must drag Amaechi down as well.” The APC alleged that the PDP chieftains deceived the justices to believe that Amaechi orchestrated their arrest and investigation. The party claimed that Wike, Akpabio, Udom and Okowa are scared of Amaechi, and his closeness to President Muhammadu Buhari which is why they want to damage and destroy him politically.

Both Governors Udom Emmanuel and Nyesom Wike, as well as Senator Godswill Akpabio have all denied the claims and dismissed it outrightly.
