A renowned Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has been voted the 2021 Man of the Year by Nigerians both at home and in the Diaspora.
In a 14-day Leadership Excellence Awards voting by Nigerians via online platforms, monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Obi Cubana was voted ahead of three other nominees.
He defeated Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Mr. Tony Elumelu, Chairman UBA Group and Mr. Abdul Rabiu, Chairman and founder of BUA Group to clinch the position..
The philanthropist and entertainer emerged winner with 2,667,845 votes just as the other nominees secured the following votes: Makinde 1,015,224 votes, Elumelu, 848,652 votes and Rabiu 819,562 votes.
Obi Cubana who hails from Oba, a community in Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State, is renowned for his philanthropy and humanitarian service.
Popularly addressed by his traditional chieftaincy title: “Okpataozuora”, which literally translates to mean: “he who makes wealth that automatically spreads round his community,” this title serves as his brand identity in the Oba community and to butress the deep essence of the title, Obi Cubana, also hailed more affectionately by close peers and home buddies as ‘Ogborle’, was recently reported to have empowered 300 youths engaged in business with N1 million each after videos of his mother’s burial went viral.
The prestigious award, organized by IgbereTV is endorsed by the African Union and the African Film Institute.
The award recognizes and honours outstanding impact of leaders across both the public and private sectors in Nigeria.
The 2021 edition award presentation, the third in a row, is scheduled to hold on Nov. 2 in Abuja. (NAN)
OBI CUBANA: A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
Obinna Iyiegbu popularly known as Obi Cubana is a Nigerian-based businessman, entertainer, entrepreneur, philanthropist and hospitality indystry icon. He is the chairman and the owner of the popular Cabana groups.
Obi Cubana was born 12th April 1975. Obinna Iyiegbu is from Oba, a community in Idemili-South Local Government Area in Anambra State, Nigeria.
Obi Cubana attended Central Primary School, Oba, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He then proceeded to the famous Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DENGRAM), in Onitsha where he obtained his West Africa Senior School Certificate(WAEC).
In 1998, after completing his primary and secondary school education, Obi Cubana proceeded to the University of Nigeria, UNN, Nsukka, where he obtained a degree in Political Science. In 2006, Obi Cubana started his first club Ibiza Club in Abuja seeking to satisfy fun seekers and nightlife lovers.
Following the remarkable progress he made from the Ibiza Club, he established the Cubana group, a hospitality club that provides all-around entertainment satisfaction in 2009.
Cubana group was first established in Owerri, Imo state capital Nigeria. Today, Cubana has spread across various states in the country including Lagos, Abuja, and Enugu.

OBI CUBAN PERSONAL LIFE
In 2008, Obi Cubana got married to his beautiful wife, Ebele Iyiegbu who is a Lawyer by profession, and her social instagram handle: @lush_eby is one of the most followed on social media.
Obi Cubana and his wife Ebele tied the knot in 2008 and their union is blessed with four biological sons (and one adopted son) She is proudly known and addressed by peers and admires, as the mother of boys (mama boys 4+1), while he is fondly called Papa Boys.
Ebele Iyiegbu is the Founder/ CEO at The KIEK Foundation, a non-governmental organization established with the aim of improving the lives of the less privileged children in our society through quality education, healthcare, nutrition, and child’s rights governance.
She also serves as the director at Casa Cubana homes and Legal Partner at Bryan Micheals & Associates.
Ebele was born in 1979, at Obosi, Anambra State.
